Sanitary facilities and water supply in rural schools in the province of Taza

2025, Morocco

The province of Taza is currently experiencing persistent drought, exacerbated by the earthquake of 8 September 2023, which damaged the drinking water supply infrastructure of local communities. The Actions@Villages non-profit organisation's project aims to install sustainable sanitation facilities in several rural schools in order to meet the urgent need for access to drinking water and sanitation infrastructure. The aim is also to make school areas safer in order to create an environment conducive to learning.

05. Gender equality
06. Clean water and sanitation
10. Reduced inequalities

In this context, we are participating in the implementation of priority projects at three public primary schools in the province of Taza: Boufekrane, Zaouia and Boulbib.

The John Cockerill Foundation’s participation in this project is part of an effort to improve hygiene and safety conditions in educational spaces for these communities. Ensuring reliable access to water improves health and reduces health risks for families. In rural areas, water supply facilitates daily life, particularly for women and children, allowing them to devote themselves to education or economic activities.
