Bringing Health Care Closer to Remote Villages in Rural Areas

2026 India

In the rural areas of Raigad, access to healthcare remains a daily challenge. The distance from medical facilities, precarious living conditions and lack of prevention can turn an apparently minor health issue into a major difficulty for families.

01. No poverty
03. Good health and well-being
10. Reduced inequalities

To respond to this reality, the John Cockerill Foundation is supporting the Swades Foundation in the deployment of Village Health Camps as close as possible to local communities.

These Village Health Camps make it possible to organize essential consultations and screenings directly in the villages, including for diabetes, hypertension, cataracts, vision disorders and hearing problems in children. People identified as needing follow-up care are referred to appropriate healthcare facilities, while beneficiaries with vision problems may receive glasses — a simple yet decisive support that helps restore comfort, independence and quality of life.

Beyond financial support, this partnership is also rooted in human commitment. John Cockerill Group employees based in India will support the field teams during regular visits. Their role will be to contribute to the logistical organization of the camps, assist with the distribution of materials and take part in discussions with local communities. This presence will help strengthen follow-up, raise awareness of hygiene and prevention, and support a lasting dynamic within the villages.

Through this initiative, the John Cockerill Foundation is helping to make healthcare more accessible to those who are furthest from it, while encouraging preventive behaviors that can sustainably improve families’ lives.
